On the playground is where we spend most of our days. Too soon?

The first year of preschool is based on the principles of an emergent curriculum. As new materials and topics are introduced, the projects adjust along with the interests of the children. Will we monitor milestones and track development? You bet. Will your fridge be covered in art? Of course. Ultimately, though, our focus is on the process – not a product. The real goal is for your child to build confidence, respect others, and have fun.

As children enter their second year of preschool, the framework is built upon their environment. Beginning with a child’s room and eventually taking things around the world, children dive into a variety of habitats. Formal programs such as Letterland and Montessori Math are also woven in, as each unit balances a progression towards school readiness with the flexibility for long-term projects and child-driven interests.

Pre-K
4.0 years +

Pre-K, DK, TK, OMG-K… regardless of what we call it, it’s what we do that counts.

As we relish the innocence of preschool, we’re also propelling our children into a whole new world. Transitioning from class to class is one of the biggest changes (and biggest challenges) children face when going to Kindergarten. So, let’s practice.

Throughout the Pre-K year, children explore a different country each month. While maintaining the consistency of a homeroom, your child will transition to different classrooms for each area of learning… just like elementary school. Learning this skill in a familiar setting will not only ease their pending move, it will also allow them to gain comfort in building relationships with multiple teachers. To support continuity and allow for a structured sense of learning, this overarching country theme is incorporated into all classrooms. At the end of each month, the classrooms conclude each unit with a celebration of the native foods and culture.

Although we continue to appreciate an emergent curriculum, we also implement the value of traditional school readiness. Formal programs include Montessori Math, Letterland, and Handwriting Without Tears.

The Next Step
From progressive education, to traditional academics, to one of the highly-respected public schools, our kids have amazing options for elementary school. With that said, navigating the process is key. We have great respect for the many relationships we have built with the schools, and an appreciation for each of their philosophies. We are committed to offering you guidance, advocating for your family, and finding that match.

Previously, we have placed children in Brentwood, Buckley, Calvary Christian, Carlthorp, Corpus Christi, Crossroads, Curtis, Echo, JTD, Mayfield, Mirman, New Roads, PS1, Seven Arrows, St. Martin of Tours, St. Matthew’s, St. Paul’s, Turning Point, UCLA Lab, Viewpoint, Village, Wildwood, Willows, and WNS.  Public schools included Canyon Charter, Dixie Canyon, Franklin, Kenter, Mar Vista, Marquez, Palisades Charter, Roosevelt, Santa Monica Canyon, Warner, and Westwood Charter. Diplomatic and alphabetical, but all true.
