Enrichment Happenings at Piper Preschool

There is so much creativity, curiosity, and hands-on learning happening in our enrichment classes each week, and we are thrilled to give families a peek inside! Every week, we’ll spotlight two classes and share what our young artists, scientists, chefs, builders, and explorers have been up to.

Enrichment gives children the chance to dive more deeply into their interests, try something new, and build confidence — all while spending time with friends and having a wonderful time. This week, we’re shining the spotlight on Art Masters and Slime, two classes that have already sparked so much excitement.

Art Masters: Starting With Banksy

In Art Masters, children are introduced to a famous artist and one of their most recognizable pieces. We spend two weeks on each project, giving children plenty of time to explore the artist’s style and work on their creations without feeling rushed.

We kicked off our first project with Banksy and his colorful rain mural. The children looked closely at the black-and-white figures, the bright paint dripping down the wall, and all the little details that make the piece so memorable. Their own artwork will include many of the same recognizable elements, but there’s still plenty of room for personal creativity and individual flair.

As they work, children are learning to look closely, notice details, experiment with materials, and discover how an artist’s work can inspire something entirely their own. We’ll continue our Banksy pieces next week, and I can already tell the finished collection is going to look incredible displayed together.

At the end of the session, children will bring home all their completed artwork as a beautiful winter gift for their families — a special keepsake showing everything they explored and created throughout the session.

Slime: A Wonderfully Gooey Beginning

Slime got off to a very squishy — and very fun — start! This week was all about introducing children to the texture of slime and giving them plenty of time to explore it. They stretched it, squeezed it, rolled it, pulled it apart, and discovered just how many ways it can move and change.

We added vibrant watercolors to bring our slime to life. The children loved watching the colors swirl and mix, and there were lots of excited reactions as new shades appeared and the slime transformed right in their hands.

It may look like wonderfully messy fun (and it absolutely is), but there is also so much learning happening. Children are strengthening their hands and fingers, engaging their senses, experimenting with cause and effect, and building confidence as they try something new.

And the fun doesn’t end when class does — each week, every child will take home a small jar of the slime they created as a special keepsake. They’ll be able to share their creation with you and continue enjoying a little piece of the class at home.
